Daily Butterfly Release Talk

Join us Daily at Noon for a talk and butterfly release as we let newly-emerged butterflies out into the conservatory.

Enjoy the two-level butterfly house with hundreds of free-flying tropical butterflies. See more than 60 species of tropical plants. Looking for more than butterflies? In our lobby, we have rotating insect and arthropod displays. See eye-to-eye with exotic stick insects, hissing cockroaches, pillbugs and tarantulas!

This pre-sale tour by Director of Horticulture Roger Sanderson shows you how to incorporate native and adapted plants into your landscape. Learn about the environmental conditions they thrive in and the beneficial insects they attract. $10, $5 for TDG Members. Advance registration strongly encouraged.

Mother's Day Concert & Butterfly Release

Join us for our fourth annual Mother’s Day Concert with The Women’s Chorus of Dallas. The hour-long concert, concluding with a live butterfly release in the Conservatory, is the perfect way to celebrate with the ones you love on Mother’s Day. Each year, concerts sell out! You can purchase a concert ticket only or add on a butterfly release package, sold separately. Concert tickets are available at thewomenschorusofdallas.com.
To release a butterfly, purchase the “Butterfly Release Gift Package” from Texas Discovery Gardens for $25 ($15/members). It includes a butterfly plant and goodies to take home.

Learn how to install drip irrigation tubing from your faucet or how to convert an existing zone to drip. Have you ever looked around your yard and wondered what exactly is planted there? Director of Horticulture Roger Sanderson will help you identify those mystery trees and shrubs! Big Bugs of Big D: A Guided Tour of Local Insect Hunter Hotspots
June 6, 2015 at 10 am - 4 pm
Our own professed Bug Man, Entomologist John Watts, dishes on the larger, flashier bugs found in DFW. We then carpool to two locations around town and have a field exercise on capturing these fascinating creatures. This whole day workshop starts at 10 am at Texas Discovery Gardens and ends off site in the late afternoon. Bring a lunch and water. We provide materials for capture and collection. $60; $48 for TDG Members. Register in advance.

Designer coops? Daily fresh free-range eggs? City chickens are definitely in right now. Bring the barnyard to your backyard with the always-entertaining John Ramos from Urban Chicken Ranching.
