Share your interest and enthusiasm about gardening, nature and important environmental issues by volunteering at Texas Discovery Gardens.  Opportunities are available year round and no prior volunteering experience is required.  Here are just a few of the ways you can contribute:

Ongoing Volunteering Opportunities:

Earthkeepers® Children’s Programs are offered to schools and other groups of preK-8th grade students.  As an Earthkeepers® Docent you will be introducing children to the unique interrelationships of plants, insects and other creatures in nature.  Each age specific program includes an interactive tour of the Gardens and a wide variety of hands on activities such as building a terrarium, planting seeds, measuring garden beds and counting the density of insects present, etc. Programs are offered Tuesday – Friday, each lasts approximately one hour.  New Docents will receive written curriculum, orientation and will shadow experienced Docents and Staff before leading tours themselves.

Scout/After-School Programs and Birthday Parties are another way to work with children in a relaxed, less structured manner. Activities and games in an outdoor setting are the emphasis for scouting, after-school, and birthday programs. We offer these EarthKeepers experiences on weekday afternoons and Saturdays throughout the year - a great way for volunteers with full or part time jobs to get involved!

To volunteer with children’s programming please contact: Joan Youngblood at edu@texasdiscoverygardens.org or ext. 27.

Gardening and Greenhouse Volunteers assist in all aspects of horticulture from plant production to landscape installation and maintenance.  This is definitely a “Learn as you Grow” opportunity!  Contact:  Sarah Gardner at contact@texasdiscoverygardens.org or ext. 23.

Special Events Volunteers help with the planning, coordinating and the implementation of our Third Saturday Garden Walks, Annual Butterfly Plant Sale, State Fair activities, outreach booths at local Festivals, to name a few.  If you are well organized, like to talk to people and enjoy being involved creatively this is a good job for you!  Contact: Contact:  Sarah Gardner at contact@texasdiscoverygardens.org or ext. 23.

Office Volunteers are needed to help with data entry, filing, copying, stuffing envelopes, etc.  This is a weekday position.  Contact:  Sarah Gardner at contact@texasdiscoverygardens.org or ext. 23.

Virtual Volunteers can help from the comfort of their own homes.  We need volunteers who can make phone calls and use their home computer to update our contact lists, conduct internet research, write newsletter articles and solicit goods and services from companies interested in donating to a non-profit.  Contact:  Sarah Gardner at contact@texasdiscoverygardens.org or ext. 23.
